When You Can't Think of a Good Title...

Umm, yeah.  I got nothing.

My job offers us the option of working certain federal holidays in order to receive an extra paid vacation day.  That's what today was.  I worked a half day and headed to my dentist appointment.

It was a last minute thing, but something I had been putting off.  Got that done, and apparently, I really need to get my wisdom teeth removed.  I still have all 4 of them.

And they are all impacted.  Awesome.

I don't feel any pain from them at all.  But they're causing my teeth to shift.   I had braces when I was a kid, so my chompers are all nice and straight.  For now.

I'm thinking it'll be good to just get them all yanked at the same time & get that crap over with.  I am NOT looking forward to that, but I must do that this year.  What a pain in the ass.  My entire face is gonna be swollen like Rocky in all 6 or 7 movies.

Well, whatever.  So that is something to do in the next few months.  I wonder how long I'd need to take off from work.  Probably at least a few days, if not an entire week.  Everyone reacts differently.

Bootcamp was on the menu tonight.  We paired up with a partner to do our circuits.  Lots of pushups, burpees, bear crawls, suicide rund (freaking hate those things), walking lunges, jump squats, and those rope things.

Ouch.  My bis, tris, & abs are all on fire right about now.  Good times.  I burned 368 calories.

I'm rocking the crazy cat lady hair look.  It's all the rage now, savvy?

And yeah, I'm totally loving the visible collar bones action.  I worked my ass off to get those things.

Anywho.  I'm not really sure why this became about my chompers.  Hehe.

Ppl - if you've had all your wisdom teef removed, please to let me know what to expect.   I know I'll probably doing lots of mushy food like yogurt, oatmeal, smoothies, clear broth, etc.  I'm thinking of doing this in April/May.  Sooner, the better.

Cauliflower pizza: yay or nay?  Discuss.

  1. I had all four impacted teeth- two days of soft foods, and I was fine. Barely any swelling zero bruising and no problems. I think the surgeon makes a world of difference.

I see your collar bones and get so excited. That's my goal. Id rather ignore the scale and just watch for mine to reappear. Lol

  2. A positive story about getting wisdom teeth removed: I got all four of my surgically removed (like I had to be put under kind!) and I actually went to a night class that night. It was stupid but I did it, haha. But I had very little swelling or bleeding that night and by the next day, I had dull pain but didn't even use the pain medication they gave me. I resumed normal activity and eating within 48 hours and never had a complication.

Just wanted to let you know things could work out totally better than fine :D

  3. I still have all 4 of my wisdom teeth, too. They are not impacted, my mouth is obviously big enough for them (go figure!), and at least 2 of them have crowns on them. This is because I'm too chicken to have them removed. My dentist mentioned that the crowns won't last forever, and at that point, I will need to have the teeth removed. I almost hyperventilated! Not sure why this terrifies me, except that I've never had any surgery (knock on wood). Both of my sisters had their wisdom teeth removed years ago. I think the big thing that causes trouble is a dry socket. Anyway, I might be in the same predicament this year - I have a dentist appt. next week...

  4. I had all my wisdom teeth pulled when I was a teenager. Tylonal 3's are a great thing.. be sure to slightly overlap your doses and do something that will take your mind off the pain.

As for food, I think it was only a couple of days before I was eating mostly normally afterwards.

  6. I had all four removed when I was 19. Two were impacted and it wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated. Only held me back a couple of days with minimal pain and swelling. Again, everyone is different. The jury's still out on the cauliflower pizza. Keep meaning to try it, just haven't yet. Should just getter done. It's the closest thing to pizza I'll likely ever have again...

  7. I had it and only had about 2 days of discomfort. I had 3 removed and I believe 2 were impacted. The worst part was just being able to suck on anything since that can cause dry socket. But I got through it and got over it.

LOVE cauli pizza! And the zucchini one. YUM.

  8. Ugh, that totally sucks about your wisdom teeth. I had mine extracted last April (all 4, none were impacted) and had a really great recovery. I iced like crazy and followed the Dr's instructions to the letter. You'd probably need just a couple days off work, depending on how much you have to talk in a day!

  9. Hi - I had all four removed at once. I was put under - twilight sleep- but felt absolutely nothing and woke up fine. You have to have someone drive you home and you may be a little loopy - but nothing major. Swollen for a few days- expect to eat mashed potatoes, pudding etc. I was a big baby and expected it to hurt but honestly felt zero pain - didn't even take a pain killer. Suggestion - go to a really good oral surgeon. I did not go to my regular dentist. That could be why I felt no pain and healed super quick. Good luck

Yes for pizza - it's a little grainy and thin but actually really good

  11. I will be the asshole and say I don't have any to pull. LOL For whatever reason I have no wisdom teeth. Sorry yours are impacted though. :(

  12. I had all 4 out at once and the 2 bottom ones were impacted. Had to go under and had stitches in my mouth. Hurt like a bitch and I couldn't eat. No food in my stomach made taking the pain killers sickening. I did it on a Friday and rested the weekend. Not a good memory, but I felt better after. Good luck girl!!

  14. I had 2 removed 2 separate times. Only the second time did I have issues- I ended up with a dry socket and pain meds that made me queasy. I was off work 2 days. I was awake for both of those- maybe 15 minutes total.

The last 2 came out with 4 other teeth when I was getting adult braces. I was put under, and had a hard time coming out of the anesthesia (I'd never had it before). I went home and slept and then was really sick from the anesthesia and had to go to the ER where they did nothing. By then the anesthesia had wore off and I was finally able to eat after over 24 hours without food. Pudding was heaven. I was completely fine the next day and needed no pain meds (I wasn't even given any!) I was slightly swollen, but mostly bruised (I'm really fair). I ate softer food, but I still ate what was normal for me at the time which was yogurt, fat free pudding and Lean Cuisines.

I'd definitely get it done in spring. I had it done in August in the middle of a heat wave (and I had no a/c) so that was terrible!

I'd be interested in how you find the cauliflower pizza. I can't stand cauliflower, but if it was made into a crust maybe I wouldn't be able to taste it.

  15. **get a second opinion** plis plis before you do anything. don't tell him why you're there. see what he/she tells you. my son's dentist was on vacation so I had to take him elsewhere for a wisdom tooth that was coming in and got infected-came out saying 'they all need to come out'-guess what/ none of them did. all he needed was a fricken antibiotic!!!. [ojo al pillo!]

  16. Lookin' good, girl! I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed about 11 years ago. I was having terrible headaches and that was the culprit. Biggest chicken in the world here, but they knocked me out so I don't remember anything during. You will definitely want the pain pills after... A week or so and you'll be good. Good luck!

  17. Get them pulled for sure.

I had mine pulled at 22, they pulled all of them at the same time. I had 2-3 impacted, and it's the impacted ones that make for a longer recovery, depending on how the teeth come out.

IMHO - It's better to get them pulled now, than to have to get them pulled later after they've done damage and gotten infected.

Would love to see a post on a review of the cauliflower pizza. I'm worried that it would fall apart because it's cauliflower not carbs.

  18. I had mine removed when I was 22, so six years ago (YIKES!). The procedure itself wasn't too bad, but then again, they did put me under general instead of local (I have a history of anethesia complications). Two of mine were impacted, but my dentist didn't report any issues. Recovery wasn't too bad for me, either - lots of soft foods and not much talking. I didn't get any dry sockets or pain beyond a few days - and good ol' hydrocodone knocked the pain out anyway. :)

  19. I had all four impacted wisdom teeth removed when I was about 19 or 20. A little discomfort/pain the first day (nothing that Advil couldn't handle). I was swollen for a couple days, however I did bruise a lot. My face was bruised for about a week. Fast forward 20 years and I had a crown put on, I also bruised from that. Turns out I bruise easily on my face.

  21. Kel, If your wisdom teeth don't bother you, I would seriously consider waiting to see if they will come in nicely on their own. My husband has perfectly straight teeth and his are coming in very nicely. They only bother him once in a while..but that's because teeth are coming in..LOL. I got my wisdom teeth out in high school and that's when all these problems with my jaw started. Love ya girl!

  22. I had all four of mine removed on a Friday, went to an office party that night. Iced my face the first day and a little on the second and was fine. My oral surgeon was Eric Foretich, famous for a bad reason. http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20120524,00.html

  23. My daughter and I each had three wisdom teeth removed at once. We did about the same in recovery. Neither of us would have been able to drive ourselves home since we were too groggy. At least two days of soft foods and minimal swelling. Pain pills knock us out so we escaped most of that. Be sure to have a ride home and soft easy foods to prepare. We ate mashed potatoes and refried beans and not too hot soup for a couple of days. You will be so glad when it is over. Good luck.

  24. I had mine out a long time ago ... I'm not sure how you normally drink smoothies but I have a cup with a straw that I like to drink out of. When you've just had your wisdom teeth removed that is a big NO-NO as it will cause dry sockets (not sure if anyone mentioned that or not).

    Good Luck!
