Ortho Update.

So I made it to my appointment this afternoon, and I was so relieved that there was zero nonsense like there was yesterday.

They took 3 X-rays of my knee:  from the front, the side, and the back.

The good news is that nothing is broken, and nothing is out of joint.   Dr. Rich commented that I had good muscles and good bones.

I told him about I suspected the plantar fasciitis in my right heel led me to stride differently and impact my left knee.  He listened, he asked me questions, and he gave me his opinion:  overtraining.

Who would've thought it when it came to me?  Overtraining is a thing.

Specifically, I'm overtraining at Bootcamp.  I have to cut it down to about 3 days a week, and cross train with the stationary bike and simple leg lifts with ankle weights.  Easy walking is ok.  Plus stretching.

It's a bummer, but also a huge relief.  Nothing is broken.  Nothing is out of joint.   There is also no fluid in my knee.  He also felt it was unnecessary to get an MRI, which is another relief.

I have to rest, and really listen to my body.  The worst of it as that I have to cut down from Bootcamp.  In the end, that really isn't a big deal.  I love it, and I do love my Bootcamp peeps, but there are other things I can do.   I have to be smart about this, because arthritis and bad knees run in my family.

It simply isn't worth risking getting severely injured.

He wants to see me again in a month to follow up, but he reiterated that he's not worried about me.

I just have to take it easy.  Enough said.

Who would've ever thought I'd be sad about not being able to work out hard core?  Times have certainly changed around here.

For the better, I think.

So I'm making the best of this,

So much for that Consult....

It didn't happen because the doctor had a last minute emergency.  All appointments were cancelled, except mine.

Because no one called me.  They were able to reach everyone else, apparently.

Meh.  It happens.  I was frustrated but luckily, I was able to schedule an appointment with a different doctor at a different practice.  Tomorrow in the afternoon.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Sunday night, my friend Rachel threw an impromptu BBQ and invited me over.  I had so much fun!  There were turkey burgers, hot dogs, broccoli rabe salad, grilled asparagus, and lots of good times.

Rachel & I sitting outside at her BBQ.

Apologies for the quality - it was just nearing dusk, and I didn't set my phone correctly.

Enjoy your day!

Injury Update.

So I have an injury.  Grr.

I've been dealing with plantar fasciitis in my right heel for a bit now, but I just haven't been too vocal about it.   I found it more annoying than painful until last week.  The heel pain started affecting my stride - I started striking with the ball of my right foot instead of my heel because it was painful.  But now I'm starting to feel some pain in my left knee.  I thought I could just power through it and treat it with ice, but now the pain has me worried.

I made an appointment to see an orthopedist Tuesday morning, just to be on the safe side.  I don't remember injuring my knee specifically.  I don't remember twisting it, or landing on it wrong at Bootcamp during burpees or anything, I just know that something doesn't feel right.  And I'm going to be proactive about it now rather than put it off any longer.

Given what my Mom went through last year with her two knee surgeries, I know I'm doing the right thing.  I'm hoping it's nothing and that I'll just need to rest it a bit.  If the worst thing the doctor tells me is that I need to take a week off from Bootcamp and that there's nothing wrong with my knee, I'll take it and consider myself lucky.

Lesson learned here, folks.  Listen to your body.  When it's hurting, give it a rest.   And if there's something seriously wrong, go see your doctor.

Take care of your body, folks.   Treat it right, and listen to it when it's trying to tell you something.  Honestly, I can't emphasize that enough.

Good vibes and thoughts would be much appreciated.  I'll let you know what he says on Tuesday.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

A Great Weekend.

Saturday I met an old high school friend for coffee.  Claudia & I had been trying to get together for a while now, but for some reason or other, we just never seemed to have the same free time.  She's a busy wife and mother of two little ones, after all.

Saturday afternoon, we changed all that.

We met at a local Dunkin Donuts for caffeine, and we chatted and caught up for a few hours.  It was nice to see her again, and she looks exactly the same!  Claudia - you look fantastic!  <3 again.="" both="" catch="" e="" each="" get="" nbsp="" nice="" other="" p="" promised="" real="" so="" soon="" t="" to="" together="" up.="" was="">
Today was an errands/chores/family day.  After Bootcamp this morning, I cleaned, dusted, and vacuumed before heading upstate to my brother's house.  It had been a while since I had seen the kids, and I really missed them.

When I got there, my nephew had just gone down for his afternoon nap.  Sonia was watching cartoons, but she gave me a big hug & kiss when I walked in.

"Tia Kelly, I love you."  Heart Tug.

My brother suggested she & I go somewhere together for some bonding time, so I took her to the local nail salon since she wanted to get her nails done.  Here's my little mini me on our way to the nail place.

She fancies herself a detective, so she brought her magnifying glass with her.  That's what she's holding in her hands.

This kid.  She has my heart.

When we got back to her house, my nephew had just woken up.  He's a bundle of energy, and I didn't have an opportunity to get an pics of him because as soon as he saw me, he was taking my hand to play outside on their trampoline.

The kids absolutely love the trampoline.   I have to admit, at first I was a little wary of getting on that thing.  But in the end, I had so much fun too!

OK - cutting this one short because I've been trying to get to bed at a decent time on weeknights.  I've learned the hard way that rest is super important no matter where you are in your journey.

Til next time.

Farmer's Market Haul.

Yesterday morning, I hit the farmer's market bright and early.  Here's a pic of my haul.

Red leaf lettuce, white onion, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, and cherry tomatoes.

(Not pictured are the fresh strawberries and blueberries I also picked up.)

I've been eating lots of fresh veggies and produce, and I want to continue the good groove I've been in the last few weeks.  That starts with proper nutrition - healthy, fresh food.  Eating well makes me feel good, which leads to all around better decisions about my fitness and food choices.

That's all for now - I'm off to food prep for the week and plan my meals.

Till next time!

Support Network.

I've been in a really great groove the last few weeks.  I've been tracking everything, planning and prepping meals, and working out at Bootcamp regularly again.  I have a clearer head, I'm in a more positive place now, my confidence is high, and it feels really good.  The mojo is back, and I couldn't be more grateful.  I'm back to believing again.

What has really helped me the last few weeks has been my close knit support circle.  I love my Bootcamp friends who have no problem calling me out on my nonsense (you're definitely coming tonight, right Kel?  Not gonna be a no-show like you were the other night?) and my "blends" Sarah & Dani.

What would I do without these beautiful ladies?  They all have the patience of saints for putting up with me.  :-)

When I was at my heaviest, I isolated myself so very much.  Way more than I ever should have.  I shut people out who wanted to help because I wasn't in the right place to be helped.  Any advice they had for me would've fallen on deaf ears, and it would've been met with defensiveness.  I can't believe how childish and immature I was back then.  I'd like to believe I'm a different person now.

Now, I know better.  Now I know that when I get into a funk, I must reach out.  To my support network.  To my friends.   Now I know when they offer advice, that I should listen with an open mind and an open heart.  That's why they are there, and that's why I have them.  Any advice they have, even if it's tough love, is coming from a good and well-intentioned place.  Lord knows I am so lucky to have them.  They also know (at least I hope they know) that I'm there for them whenever they should need me.

It's not easy to reach out for support and ask for help when you're struggling, but it's important to take a step back and ask yourself some really tough questions.  If you're going at this alone and it's not working, is it easy to admit that something needs to change?

Do you have a support network?  Is it easy for you to reach out and ask for help?
