WI and Bad Weather.

I suck at blogging lately - sorry!  I will try to be better about it, I promise.

The winter continues to spread its horribly frigid weather here in my neck of the woods.  I have a feeling we will not have much of a spring, that the winter will last well into April and possibly May.  And then we'll jump from really cold to really hot.  I guess we'll just have to wait and see, eh?

I swear I will never complain about heat and humidity ever again in life after the frigid temperatures we've had here lately.  Ever.

The week was pretty normal here, food wise.  Valentine's Day I had some ice cream from the local ice cream shop, just a small cup - nothing outrageously high in calories.  I tracked it, no big deal, and moved on.

Here's how I did this morning at WI.

I lost a pound, bringing me closer and closer back to goal.  I'm 4 pounds away, and every solid WI brings me back.  I'm happy with this loss.  :-)

Later, I met my friend Ginger at a local Japanese place for lunch, and then we headed to see Kingsman with Colin Firth.  He'll always be Mr. Darcy to me - he's quite dreamy and very kick ass in this movie - perfect mix!

Snow selfie.

The snow was supposed to hold off, but as you can see from our hoods, it didn't.  Which meant that my other weekend plans were called once again to a screeching halt.  I was supposed to head out to NJ to hand out with my friend Angela, but the weather put an end to that pretty quickly.

It's the second weekend in a row that's happened.   Awesome.

Oh well, nothing I can do about it but roll with it.  There will be other weekends.  And we have already scheduled a make up date!

Still snowing here, but it's looking like it'll turn to rain at some point overnight.  I hope the rain will wash away a lot of the snow and ice around here.

Gonna curl up under a few blankets now.  Stay warm folks!

WI and Food Prep.

So here's how I did yesterday morning at WI.

Up 0.6.  Hmm.  As Karen would say, time to course correct.  I'm not worried about it, just hoping I'll see it next week on the scale.  So the plan for this week is to limit sodium/salt intake, and add some more dark leafy greens in.  I've picked up some baby spinach, baby kale, and baby arugula for salads this week.

It is currently like an Arctic tundra out there, and I'm not kidding!  The windchill factor this morning was below zero.  Shudder.  The difference in this winter and last winter, besides the massive snow, is that it is definitely more colder this year.  To me, anyway.  Anyone else feel that way?

The weather also prevented me from going up to Boston this weekend to see Dani, Tori and some other friends that live up there.  I'm still pretty bummed about it, but nothing to do about it.  Safety first.  Boston is getting hammered lately with snow!  The news reports coming out of there are just unreal.  There's literally no place to put the snow anymore.  Good Lord.

Hopefully March will be kinder.  We'll see.

I decided on leftover tomato vegetable soup that I had in the freezer and turkey burgers for this week.  In my food processor, I threw in a ripe avocado, shallots, olives, garlic, olive oil, red pepper flakes, and lime juice - a quick guacamole - and then mixed that into ground turkey breast.  I chopped up pancetta and threw that in as well.  Since it'll be so cold this week, I figured that frozen tomato vegetable soup will be perfect paired with a turkey burger.

Quick, easy, and flavorful.  I'm happy with the results.

Unfortunately, some of them broke apart, but oh well.  They also were a bit bigger than I had anticipated, which I know is from the veggies I mixed into the ground turkey breast.

In other news, my Fitbit Flex battery died yesterday, again, which is a shame.  Boo.  I like being able to see how many steps I take in a day, and how active or inactive I am.  I hope I'm still under the warranty and can get a replacement.  If not, I'll just bite the bullet and get another Fitbit.  Maybe another model, like The One?  I'll wait to see what Fitbit tells me and go from there.

That's not to mean I still won't get up and get activity in just because my Fitbit is dead.  I'm still going to the gym, working on rehabbing the knee.  And Friday night, I even went back to hot yoga!  It was tough, but it was nice to just relax and stretch.  I couldn't do certain poses - eagle and tree are still enigmas to me - but when I couldn't perform certain poses because of the knee, I just stood on my mat and breathed calmly.

It felt nice to just be present in the yoga studio, it truly did.   I'm going to try to make it to hot vinyasa tomorrow night.  If I go, I'll definitely make sure to bundle up before and after!  This Arctic cold will be around for a while.  And I'm also starting Pilates this week.  I've never done Pilates, so I'm interested to see how it goes.  I hope I like it, and I hope it's a good way to rehab the knee.

Other than that, not much else.  Sorry this got wordy!  Happy Sunday!

Hello friends!

Sorry for being MIA - it was not intentional.  I had planned to post yesterday, but something unfortunate happened at work.  One of my coworkers - the receptionist - tripped, fell, and broke her hip in the office.  It was very scary, and nerve wracking.   She was in a lot of pain, as you can imagine, and we were all scared and worried for her.  The ambulance and paramedics were called, and they took her to the hospital, where they diagnosed the fracture and broken hip.  She is scheduled to undergo a hip replacement today, and we are all confident she will recover quickly.

It seems foolish to blog about my day, or how my week has been after that, so I won't do that.  If you could spare a few nice and positive thoughts for her, please do so.

Sorry for the driveby, the last two days have been a whirlwind of anxiety for her.

Back this weekend when we know more about her.

Be well!

WI & 2nd Opinion.

It's been a busy day of running around, running errands and such.  But first things first.  Here's how I did at WI this morning.

I lost 2 pounds this week!  5 pounds away from goal - again.  How I did that, even with the garlic bread and pizza slice on Monday, I don't know.  Monday was my snow day - the day we had freezing rain and hazardous driving conditions.  I am chalking it up to carb cycling and sheer dumb luck.   No grains since then.  Ok, Karen?  :-)

I couldn't stay for my meeting, as I had my appointment with the new orthopedist at the same time.  So he looked at the CD of my MRI, felt the knee, and put me through some flexion moves.  The good news is no surgery, no scope, etc is necessary.  He won't perform it anyway, as the problem doesn't warrant it because of the underlying cause.  The underlying cause is arthritis.

The bad news, if you want to call it bad news, is I'm pretty much just going to have to wait until the cyst dissipates.  He did say the cold weather made it worse, and that the knee might start to feel better in the Spring.  He also prescribed more physical therapy, more aggressive physical therapy, which would concentrate on strength/weight training the quads, hips, and glutes.   He said PT and at home work is pretty much my only option.

I'm unsure how to feel about it.  Meh.  In the end, it's not the worst thing in the world.  So, just have to make the best of it.

I am going to end this one on a positive note.  Major NSV today, as I was able to fit into these jeans that didn't fit just a few weeks ago!

Be well, everyone!

I'm going to keep this one short and simple, I promise!

I went to my WW meeting yesterday, and WI'ed.  Here it is.

I'm down 0.8.  Slow but steady.  I'll take it.  I'm exactly 7 pounds from goal again, and 5 pounds from a comfortable weight range.

I expect it will continue to take me a while to get the rest off.  That's what happened last go around.  Here's where I must practice patience, and just accept that good behaviors and habits will continue to pay off, no matter how slow it is and no matter how long it will take.

Positive progress is still progress! (Now repeat to self infinity.)

Afterwards, I ventured into the city to meet Margo and Kerry Ann at Hu Kitchen, which is a really great Paleo/Primal Restaurant.  Kudos to Margo for finding it!

It was so much fun seeing them!  Dummy me, I didn't get a picture of all 3 of us together, as Margo & I arrived first, and Kerry Ann ran into train trouble, so she arrived after us.

It was biting cold out yesterday, oy!  And tonight, we are getting yet another storm.  This one makes me particularly nervous, as it will be a mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain.  Which means everything will ice over, and the commute (if my office is open) will be hazardous.

If you live in the Northeast, be sage out there.  I am watching the rest of the Super Bowl game, and then turning in early, since I'm not sure what will happen tomorrow.

Happy Sunday evening!
