WI Results & Friend's Birthday!

Is it me or has July flown by? :-/ Shame, since the summer has been pretty enjoyable.  And it just means that if the summer is flying by, then colder temps will be here soon.  But I'm ahead of myself.

First things first, WI.

Down 0.8.  :-)  Yay.  Feeling good, and I'm just going to go with the flow.

I'm getting more acclimated to CrossFit.  The Coach is more engaging, and I appreciate that.  A lot.  Those WODS are tough, even with modifications, and after my initial premature reluctance, I'm excited about my next fitness chapter.  It helps that my friend Katie attends this box, and she's such a big help and support.  Phew.  I'll be ok.  My CrossFit friends have warned me that there will be days I rock the work out, and there will be days where I'll leave wanting to cry, I'll be so wiped and worn out (humbled.)  I'm scared but looking forward to it, if that makes any sense.

Last night, I joined some of my Bootcamp friends for Brittany's birthday party at Prime.  It was a lot of fun!

With Lori and Peter.  I miss them!  It was great to catch up.  Let's do it again soon, guys!

Mom and Dad are hanging in.  Mom has to have weekly blood test for a while to see how her meds need to be adjusted.  She doesn't have to take Pradaxa anymore, which is great, but they put her on Coumadin while she was in the hospital.  As her numbers and levels progress, the hope is she'll be able to stop blood thinners at some point.  Hence, the weekly blood work for now.

Ok,  that's all I have for now.  Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Foo Fighters!

So Weds. night, I went with some friends to the Foo Fighters show at Citi Field.

The Broken Leg Tour, as it's been coined because Dave Grohl broke his leg while performing in Sweden, was awesome.  Even if the poor guy had to play & sing from his throne that he designed while recovering in the hospital.  LOLZ

Honestly, if you've never seen them live, you MUST see them!!  It was such a great night!

We had General Admissions seats, which meant we were standing the whole time on the floor.  I had woken up Weds. morning with a super tight back for some reason, so it was tough, but screw it - I sucked it up!  Four hours of head banging and dancing. And sweating - it was humid that night.

He had his leg in a cast and had to keep it elevated.

Concert selfie!  With Rita and Jenna.

End of show.  Chad from the Chili Peppers was in town, called the band up & said, "Hey Dave,  I'm in town, wanna play?"

So he guested on the drums while Taylor sang a few covers.  It was great!

Still continuing with CrossFit, and it's kicking my ass, but in a good way.  I've missed organized group fitness a whole lot, so I'm glad I found this box.  I'm still doing Foundations, and I'm almost done.  Friday will be my first WOD at this box with everyone, so I'm nervous.  I hope they like me.  The coaches there seemed nice, and one of the ladies from my WW meeting attends this box.  She's the one who pushed me into trying it, and Eric knows someone who goes to this box too.  So we'll see.

Sweating like a pig. Even this Met Con was tough, and it killed me!

WI Results & CrossFit.

Hey everyone!

It has been a gorgeous sunny weekend so far, and I am a firm believer in the sunshine playing a part in my mood.  I've been feeling ok lately, and more confident in my food choices.  That's something that was missing most of last year, and I am hoping I got my groove back on that one.

For some reason, it showed in my WI this week.

Down 2.6 lbs this week.  :-)  Maybe it's IF (Intermittent Fasting)? Maybe it's carb cycling?  Maybe it's that I'm still trying to figure this out.   Whatever it is, it seems to be working.  For now.

I'm still shopping around at local CrossFit boxes.  I went to one that one of my friends from my WW meetings go to, and she had nothing but rave reviews about the box.

I met Shannon, the owner, and one of the other head coaches, Ray, trained me for complimentary class.  I still worked, I still sweated like a pig, and it was a tough WOD.  And I actually lifted!  First time at the bar.  :-)

I did 4 rounds of the above WOD, and got halfway done through 5 before time ran out.  I'm sore already.

I'm undecided about which box to frequent.  Still going back and forth about it.  I know I want CrossFit to be my next fitness chapter, just don't know about the box yet.  Price is a factor, but so are the people and community aspect.  I'll have to make up my mind soon, so we'll s,ee.

I think it'll be a low key weekend for me.  Cleaning, food prep, a visit to the beach, etc.  Nothing special nor super busy before the work week begins.  Ugh.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

So I made it to my first WOD yesterday!

And I didn't die. So there's that. :-)

I had a lot of anxiety setting in as I sat in my car waiting for the session to start.  I saw those athletes in there performing such crazy athletic moves (crazy for me) that I allowed the old insecurities to come creeping back in to my head:

You are way out of your league.

You do not belong here.

What were you thinking?

You can't do any of this.

Just turn around and go home right now.

Isn't that terrible?  I mean, it's god awful.  I'd NEVER say that to another human being.  Ever.  And I was and still am excited about this next fitness chapter of my life.  So why am I deliberately trying to sabotage myself before I had even begun?  That's dumb and extremely counter productive.  And I know better.

Luckily, I have the best friends who are CrossFitters supporting me.

I got all these great messages from T, Steve and Eric telling me to take a leap of faith and just PRESS ON. No matter what, I'll have a great workout and we all have to start somewhere. I had already paid for the Groupon, so I might as well start, right?  So, that's what I did.  After a whole lot of deep breaths.

I walked in, looked around, and sat down, waiting for the 6PM session to start.  The Coach spotted me and walked up to me after a few minutes.  He introduced himself, took my information, input in the system, and then I told him about my bum knee.  He said not to worry, just to scale back.  Ok.  I could do that.

I did shrugs, walking lunges, V-ups, pull ups on those rings, jump rope, and then a 1000m row at the end.

I feel sore already.  That rowing machine was something.

So my thoughts?  Umm, I think I should've been more insistent on taking the Foundations class first, because I thought that's what any newcomer had to do?  I mean, I feel fine now, there wasn't a whole lot of high impact, which is good.  I guess I just needed to be more vocal about it.

I'm taking the day off from CrossFit today, and will go back tomorrow.  Today will be a light active rest day on the recumbent bike or Arc Trainer.  We'll see.

And - more good news.  The social worker called me today about my Mom.  She gets to home next Tuesday!!  :-)

If you've ever CrossFitted or still CrossFit - talk to me!

Fitbloggin, Denver, WI & Mom.

Hello everyone!  How did everyone enjoy their holiday?  I kept mine low key with my friend Ginger.  We had dinner at the Colombian restaurant, then we watched Spy with Melissa McCarthy.  It's hysterical, and we both laughed hard, which is exactly what we both needed!

Mom update:  She came through the procedure with FLYING colors!  So relieved!  She has some chest  discomfort from the incision, but that is all normal and will go away as the wound heals and as she recovers.  She is currently in cardiac rehab, and it is unknown how long she will have to stay there.  She would like to be home now, but that will be contingent on how quickly she progresses in her PT.

Thank you for all the wonderfully sweet comments and well wishes.  They helped so much, trust me!

Denver.  Oh my, what a whirlwind!  It was so much fun, it went by too quickly and I cannot believe it is all over.  I have more thoughts on it, but right now, my brain is fried.  I went.

I saw my friends and my people.

I cried.

I hugged a lot.

And it was wonderful.  All of it.

It has been a TOUGH few weeks, as you all know.

So right now, I will leave you with some photos of truly wonderful people, as well as my WI post Fitbloggin.

My roommate Kirsten and I at 6AM right before we went out for a walk around Denver town.

Christine, aka Dubyawife.  The SCOTUS decision was announced when we were all in Denver, and I texted this pic of support to T-Rex & Mimi.  We miss you guys!!

Alan, aka Sweating It Off.  You'll never meet a more upstanding, sweet & generally classy guy than him.

Jill, Tracy and I.  When Jill walked into the hotel, I practically tackled her NFL style.  Way to keep it classy, Kel.  But in my defence, I was super excited to see her.  And no yellow flags were thrown nor personal fouls assessed.  So, there's that.

I weighed in the day after I got back from Denver, to keep myself accountable.  I gained 0.2, and I am more than ok with that.

Tomorrow, I start my fitness chapter:  CrossFit.  Yup, I'm drinking the CrossFit Koolaid.  I'm a little nervous about it, but I'm not super worried.  I'll get to the box early, talk to the coach, explain my arthritic knee, and just have faith that it will be a great experience.  I'm going in with an open mind and excitement.

I'm ready to get stronger, fitter, and leaner.  :-)

Back with more later.  Have a great one!
